Abhaneri is a village that may not be easy to find, but is certainly worth the trouble. Abhaneri is a popular tourist attraction due to its baori or step wells. So called for the steps that are built into the sides of the well and lead down to the water, Chand Baori has 3,500 steps that descend in perfect symmetry over thirteen storeys (20 metres). It was the ritual to wash in the step well before visiting the adjacent temple of Harshat Mata; a cheerful goddess who would reward your efforts by imparting joy and happiness. The temple still boasts examples of ancient Indian architecture and sculpture.
